Welcome Letter
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As announced during the last GCIRC Congress held in Wuhan, China, the 13th International GCIRC Rapeseed Congress will take place in 2011 in the Czech Republic.
It is my pleasure to cordially invite you on behalf of the Groupe Consultatif International de Recherche sur le Colza (GCIRC) to our small but beautiful country in the heart of Europe and especially to its Capital of Prague. Life is usually full of contrasts. The last congress held in China - one of the worlds‘ biggest countries - will be followed by another one in a country which is not huge at all.
There are many oilseed crops grown in the Czech Republic – sunflower, poppy, mustard, soybean, linseed - but oilseed rape is the most important on the whole. Its total area exceeds 300 thousand ha and an average yield of the three last years amounts to 3.1 t/ha.
The Prague congress will give us the opportunity to meet for the first time after the „Velvet Revolution“ in a post-communist country. I wish to extend a special invitation to „rapeseed people“ from all over the world to exchange the latest information from all sectors of rapeseed breeding, growing and processing.
Prague possesses an uncommon beauty, both due to its location on several hills surrounding the Vltava River and due to its preserved heritage of over one thousand years of coexistence and interaction of Czech, German and Jewish cultures. Finally, the congress venue – Prague Congress Centre is special place by itself.
Dear colleagues, welcome to Prague in early June 2011.

Petr Baranyk
President of the 13th International Rapeseed Congress
